Professor John Behr will give a talk based on his recent book

entitled ‘Origen, On First Principles: A New Reading’

at the School of Theology and Religious Studies, the University of Tartu

on 7 May 2018 at 17:00 in Room 307.

Very Rev. Professor John Behr is Fr Georges Florovsky Distinguished Professor of Patristics at St Vladimir’s Seminary (New York) and Metropolitan Kallistos Chair of Orthodox Theology at Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, teaching courses in patristics, systematic theology and scriptural exegesis. Having studied under Bishop Kallistos (Ware), Fr John earned his Master of Philosophy in 1991 and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in theology from Oxford University in 1995. His books include Becoming Human: Meditation on Christian Anthropology in Word and ImageThe Mystery of Christ: Life in Death, Irenaeus of Lyons: Identifying Christianity, Formation of Christian Theology (The Way to Nicea, The Nicene Faith), Asceticism and Anthropology in Irenaeus and Clement.

In December 2017 Oxford University Press has published the new edition of Origen “On First Principles”, one of the most important and controversial texts from early Christianity, edited and interpreted by Professor Behr in the series “Oxford Early Christian texts”.
